From the sea to the green—Gary Cassidy is a Community Trailblazer with generations of roots in Whatcom County.
From working at the Country Club as a young boy to excelling in golf and swimming during high school, Gary’s connection to the community runs deep. After earning a full ride to WSU where Cassidy was on the golf and dive team, and also would exhibition box for money. After college he spent years on the water as a commercial in fisherman Bristol Bay and founded and ran Cassidy Construction where he built high end homes from Edgemoor to Semiahmoo.
He and some other local fisherman co-founded the Commercial Fishermen's Association which built the iconic Safe Return statue in Zuanich Point Park, and they also started Bellingham’s annual Seafeast and run the Blessing of the Fleet ach year- one of the best events in Whatcom County where people in the fishing industry throughout the county join to bless the fleet for safe journey and safe return, remember loved ones who have passed and enjoy an amazing seafood dinner, beverages and music. Gary continues to help with community projects and events, and enjoys being a part of the Golf Classic, circling back to the course he grew up helping maintain and caddying.
