Meet Community Trailblazer, Dakotah Lane!

Born and raised in Bellingham, WA, an enrolled member of the Lummi Nation. While growing up Dakotah would help run his grandpa’s firework stand on and worked as a fisherman on his father’s purse seiner fishing for salmon in the Puget Sound. I went to University of Washington where he graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he decided to switch careers and joined Peace Corps.

While working for Peace Corps, Dakotah served as a High School teacher in Malawi, Africa from 2003-2005. Helping to manage a microcredit loan for a small fishing village to help increase the income of its participants. After completing his Peace Corps service, he attended medical school at Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York City from 2008-2013 followed by attending a Family Medicine residency in Halifax Family medicine residency in Daytona Beach, FL from 2013-2016. One of his more memorable moments during residency, was serving as a part of the emergency response team on the racetracks during Daytona 500 car races.

Since graduating he have been working as a physician and Medical Director at the Lummi Tribal Health Clinic which serves a tribal community of 5300.
